Sensational news from Italy claims that Romelu Lukaku has been trying to persuade Mertens to ditch Napoli for Manchester. The reports say Mertens is a subject of transfer for both Chelsea and Manchester United. However United have the edge with Champions League football on offer.

Mertens has emerged a top target for Chelsea with incoming manager Maurizio Sarri keen on taking the 30-year-old to England.
Mertens was transformed into a goalscoring attacker by Sarri and has developed rapidly into a feared attacker in Italy. Mertens is believed to have a release clause of around £30 million which would be a bargain for United.
Despite turning 30 this year Mertens can offer a clinical edge to united attack and can play any position in the attacking third.
Many reports claim that Mertens would be signed as a replacement for wantaway winger Anthony Martial. Though United are also linked with Welsh winger Gareth Bale and Flamboyant attacker Willian. Though both targets are each valued above £70 million and are of similar age bracket with Mertens.

United fans would be hopeful that Lukaku can convince his teammate to switch to Old Trafford ahead of Next season. Mertens has been superb for Napoli scoring 56 goals and contributing 27 assists in his last two seasons at Naples based outfit.
