Chelsea have reportedly developed an interest in the full-back who has been influential in Tottenham’s recent impressive performance which has seen then climbed to the fourth position in the Premier League standings.

In his bid to beat José Mourinho to the player’s signature, Antonio Conte has agreed to pay £150,000 as Toby’s weekly wages.

Alderweireld’s future at the North London club remains uncertain as he wants increased weekly wages in his proposed new contract extension but Tottenham hierarchy are not ready to grant his request.

Spurs board are therefore desperate to sell him out in the summer so as to avoid losing him as a free agent when his contract expires in 2019.

In his bid to improve his team’s defensive abilities in the summer, Conte, who could be shown the exit door at the end of the season, believes the 29-year-old possess the ability to perform well for the former Premier League Champions should he switch to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea are yet to officially make an approach to the player’s agent as they are mainly focused on qualifying for next season’s Champions League competition by ending the season among top-four clubs.
