David Moyes is currently without his two favourite attackers as Manuel Lanzini will miss over a month of football with a hamstring injury, while Marko Arnautovic is also out for two weeks with a hamstring issue.
Joao Mario has been capped 31 times for Portugal and was a key member as they won the Euros 2016 tournament, however after struggling to hold down a place at Inter, following a move to the Italian capital in August 2016, he is now trying to hold down a World Cup squad spot ahead of Portugal’s World Cup campaign.
The loan deal will run till the end of the season with an option to buy, though it is subject to reaching an agreement with the player, and then Inter, as the Serie A club are looking to demand a 1 million loan fee.
The Hammers are also looking at bringing in Jonjo Shelvey and Leander Dendocker before the end of the transfer window.
