Chelsea are in a three-way battle to sign Brazilian midfielder Fernando from Spartak Moscow, according to reports.

The Blues have expressed interest in bringing Fernando, 26, to Stamford Bridge this summer but face competition from Tottenham and Everton.

Since joining Spartak from Sampdoria in 2016, Fernando has developed into a key player for the Russian side, playing over 30 games this season.

The Sun say Fernando’s performances in Russia have caught the attention of a number of English clubs, with Chelsea, Spurs and Everton hoping to strike a deal.

The midfielder, who could still win the Russian Premier League title this season, has eight caps for Brazil and is expected to be on the move in the summer.

A number of Spanish clubs have also explored the possibility of signing Fernando, who is valued at £22million, with Sevilla and Atletico Madrid weighing up moves.

But Chelsea chiefs are determined to bolster the squad at Stamford Bridge after a difficult season and a midfielder will be targeted. England international Danny Drinkwater could be sold having spent just one year at the club, while Tiemoue Bakayoko is struggling to adapt to the Premier League.

Antonio Conte is expected to leave Chelsea this summer and Roman Abramovich will hope to provide the incoming manager with a number of key signings.
