Manchester United have turned their attentions to Carlos Soler and Julian Weigl after completing a deal for Alexis Sanchez this January. The Red Devils announced the signing of Sanchez from Arsenal on Monday evening, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading in the opposite direction in a swap move.
Jose Mourinho hailed Sanchez following his high-profile move to Old Trafford, but United are already lining up their next targets after landing the Chilean.
The Independent suggests United’s hierarchy were looking to sign a winger, a striker and a marquee signing and Sanchez ticks all of those boxes.
This means the Premier League giants will now look to bring in midfield reinforcements, with Valencia’s Soler, 20, and Borussia Dortmund’s Weigl, 22, firmly on Jose Mourinho’s radar. It’s claimed the Red Devils are ‘confident’ of completing deals for the duo.
United have dropped their interest in Dortmund forward Christian Pulisic after completing the signing of Sanchez. Sanchez revealed that the opportunity to work under Mourinho was one of the major factors which convinced him to join United. ‘I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world,’ he told United’s official website. ‘I have spent three-and-a-half wonderful years at Arsenal and I bring with me very positive memories of that great club and its fans.
‘The chance to play in this historic stadium and to work with Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down. ‘I am very proud to be the first Chilean player ever to play for United’s first team and I hope I can show our fans all around the world why the club wanted to bring me here.’
