JUST IN: Antonio Conte signs off €90,000-a-week deal that will excite Chelsea fans

Sunday, 28 January 2018

According to reports in The Telegraph, Chelsea target Emerson Palmieri has agreed to join the club on a four-and-a-half year contract worth around €90,000-a-week (£80,000-a-week) from AS Roma.

Well, Blues boss Antonio Conte had been attempting to sign the Brazilian-born Italy international left-back and striker Edin Dzeko in a double deal from the Serie A giants, but while they have come to an agreement for Palmieri, The Telegraph says it is proving to be more difficult to sort out a deal for the former Manchester City man.

Chelsea look likely to sign the defender whatever happens with Dzeko, with The Telegraph reporting that the Premier League holders will look elsewhere for a new centre-forward if a deal for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international isn’t done by the end of the weekend.

The 23-year-old didn’t return to action until November after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and he has only played three times since then with Aleksandar Kolarov impressing for Roma in the left-back role.

The defender – who can also play as a left wing-back and left midfielder – has made 47 appearances in all competitions for his current team, scoring two goals and providing a further assist.
Will he be a good signing for Chelsea?

He certainly will be.

The west London outfit needed more competition for Marcos Alonso in the left wing-back role, and now with Kenedy joining Newcastle United on loan until the end of the season they look to have got it.

The fact that he hasn’t been playing regularly for Roma following his return from injury is a slight worry because it is unclear whether he is back to the form he showed previously, however he will excite the Stamford Bridge faithful if he can rediscover his impressive performances from last season.

According to WhoScored.com he successfully completed 45 of the 63 dribbles he attempted in 25 Serie A appearances, while he won 29 of the 42 aerial duels he faced, made 30 key passes and won 46 of the 54 tackles he attempted.
