The January transfer window is now officially opened and while Antonio Conte expects his squad to be bolstered, Spain international striker Diego Costa has now officially join Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, according to reports.

Costa received an unprecedented sack text message at the end of last season from Antonio Conte and he was left alone to sort out his future. He left Chelsea for Brazil even before an agreement was reached between the Blues and the Rojiblancos and he was ordered to return to the club, alas he didnt.
Costa was linked to a permanent move to AC Milan but he wanted a loan deal so that he would join Atletico Madrid, who were serving a transfer ban until now. Apparently, he will make Diego Simeone’s more stronger and they can now fight for a top four finish.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old was a key squad member for Conte in their title conquest and without him, the Blues are set to miss out on the title this term. The relationship of Conte and Costa ended in acrimony but the Italian tactician has sent his wishes to his former lead attacker.

“It’s not right to talk about players who are not in my team and squad,” Conte told Sky Sports. “But I thank him for his commitment and behaviour during the season.

“We won together, so I will always remember him in a positive way. We fought together and won together.”

Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata in the summer as replacement for Costa and the Spaniard has lived up to expectation.
