Chelsea have lost starlet Harvey St Clair to Italian club Venezia.

The highly-rated midfielder snubbed a new contract offer from the Blues in favour of a move to Italy. The 19-year-old had been expected to sign a contract to extend his stay in London but surprisingly opted for a new challenge in Italy.

The midfielder in his first interview after sealing his move spoke of his interest in developing outside England. He, however, acknowledged the decision was a difficult but necessary one at the present time. The player who has been with the Blues since the age of eight also praised the club for their role in his development.

St Clair had been linked to several clubs following his excellent display in the Toulon tournament. The midfielder was influential as Scotland reached the semifinals of the tournament losing to England.

The midfielder who models his style of play from Blues legend Frank Lampard broke into the U-23 squad last season.

Zenit St Petersburg and West Ham were reportedly after his signature, but Venezia has surprised many by securing the player’s signature. The player has signed a five-year deal with the Serie B outfit.
Chelsea fans are disappointed in losing such a prodigious talent but there is a general concession that the player needed regular game time to break into the squad. The Scotland international made 17 appearances last season.
