Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the move to land English youngster George Hirst from Championship club Sheffield Wednesday.
As reported by The Mirror, Manchester United are close to confirming their first summer signing in the form of young English attacker George Hirst. The Sheffield Wednesday ace was tipped to join Leicester City. But, it appears the forward is now ready to join the Red Devils in the summer.
George Hirst comes from a footballing family. The youngster’s dad is considered an Owls legend, having performed 294 times for Sheffield Wednesday during his footballing career. The player broke into the first-team setup in the 2016-17 campaign and was touted to be a promising prospect for the season to come.
However, the striker’s omission towards signing a new long-term contract at the club has seen him perform no part in the Sheffield Wednesday first-team this campaign, and his exit is almost a certainty at this time, with Hirst reportedly in no mood to change his attitude toward signing a new deal at the club.
There has been interest from within England, with Leicester City, Newcastle and Everton all set to add the forward to their squads. However, it was the ex-Premier League champions that were touted to be favourites in the race to land George Hirst.
