PDP Distances Self From Members Indicted For Corruption, Urges Buhari To Probe ‘Corrupt’ Ministers

Thursday, 31 December 2015

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to extend his anti-corruption war to serving ministers, who it alleged were involved in corrupt practices before their appointment to serve in the current administration.

The party made the call at the end of a meeting held on Tuesday, in Abuja, by PDP Body of National Vice Chairmen.

In a communique issued by its secretary and PDP national chairman for the South-South, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh; the body said the party was in support of the anti-corruption drive of President Buhari but insisted that some of his ministers were corrupt.

The PDP vice chairmen, who agreed that if corruption is not eradicated, the growth of Nigeria as a nation would remain stunted, distanced the party completely from any corrupt practices while it was in power for 16 years.

The body, which said that ‘mediocres’ would no longer be allowed to steer the affairs of the PDP, noted that any of its members convicted by the present administration for corruption, shall also face intra-party disciplinary action as it stood steadfastly by the ideals of the G-34 founding fathers of the party.

The communique also frowned at the corrupt toga hanged on the party, stressing that a vast majority of PDP members at the grassroots are innocent and not corrupt, adding that Nigerians will realize in the very near future that the PDP remains the only viable choice for the progress and unity of Nigeria

“The body notes with great concern the various allegations and charges against some PDP members that served in Government, even as these allegations and charges are yet to be proven, we call on the President to also investigate some of his serving Ministers and associates that even more grievous allegations have been levied against. The PDP as a Party dissociates itself from any of its members so indicted.

“We make bold to say that those who are corrupt have left the party and those who left are indisputably mercenaries and Soldiers of Fortune. In spite of having lost the Presidential elections the PDP remains the largest Party in Nigeria and Africa and we intend to keep it so.

“The vast majority of PDP members at the Grassroots are innocent and not corrupt and accordingly we frown at and reject the notion and tagging of the PDP as a corrupt party”, the communiqué read in part.
